Conversations between Gerald Pirner and Heidi Prenner with Detlef Matthes on the 1980s in East Berlin and West Berlin. The first part focuses on the years 1986 and 1987. While the May Day riots of 1987 caused a stir in West Berlin, one month later, thousands of young people in the eastern part illegally watched the Concert for Berlin.

After studying theatre studies and philosophy, Gerald Pirner worked as an editor for the Kreuzberg-based publishing house Schwarze Risse and wrote articles on factory work and social struggles for various magazines.After goingblind in 1989 due to retinitis pigmentosa, he completed a training as a media documentalist at the Sächsische Zeitungin Dresden in 1992 and began writing as an essayist for the online magazine Kultura-Extrain 2006. In 2014, he founded "Gerald Pirner –Texte zu Kunst," a website where he publishes essays on visual art, theatre, music, and film from the perspective of a blind person. In parallel, he works as a blind reporter in various museums and cultural venues. In 2017, he co-founded the Photography Studio for Blind Photographers in Berlin together with other blind individuals. He primarily works with the light painting technique.Since 2019, he has been collaborating with Gravity Access Services as a consultant and co-author of audio descriptions in thefield of dance. From 2022 onward, he also began performing with Gravity/Jess Curtis, with appearances in Berlin and San Francisco. Following the death of Jess Curtis, he developed a deeply personal approach to the blind person's experience of space. His work no longer focuses on the difficulties sighted people have with darkness, but rather on the challenges blind people face when navigating unfamiliar spaces.In addition to his podcast work on the relationship between East and West Berlin, he also explores a different kind of image description for blind individuals—one that does not describe the image, but stages it.
